Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Huangben, Yangshan County, Guangdong Province. It was named by District Survey Team of Guangdong Geological Bureau in 1958 and first public cited by Guangdong Geological Bureau in 1964.

Lithology and Thickness

It is mainly composed of brown-red, yellow-brown, yellow-gray fine-grained sandstone, siltstone intercalated with shale. Lower part is yellow-grey, brown-red feldspar quartz siltstone. Middle part is brown-red, brown-red, and thick sandstone. Upper part of the brown-red shale is interbedded with yellow-gray medium-thick and coarse-grained sandstone. The thickness is greater than 438 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The yellowish-brown shale at the bottom is in integrated contact with the thin-bedded limestone of the Daye Gr.

Upper contact

The top is not seen. Next younger regional unit is the Genkou Gr (Hongweikeng Fm).

Regional extent

This group has very little exposure, only seen in the Huangben area of Yangshan, Guangdong Province.
